Lexus introduced the original GX for 2003 as a more upscale evolution of the body-on-frame Toyota Land Cruiser Prado developed largely for the American market. Positioned below the LX, and known as the "J120" internally, it retained the Prado's off-road prowess, but it offered buyers a long list of comfort and luxury features worthy of the Lexus badge.
