The range included the 240D, which received a 4-cylinder diesel engine, and the 300D, which offered an extra cylinder (and, later, a turbo). Sales ended after the 1985 model year, when the W123 was replaced by the W124 (which became the first E-Class).Power comes from a 3.0-liter turbodiesel 5-cylinder engine, rated at 123 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Called "OM617" internally, it spins the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission.
