The “D2” Audi A8 was launched in North America for the 1997 model year, and was the brand’s first model to feature an all-aluminum monocoque called “Audi Space Frame”. As a rival to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7-Series, the Audi A8 was offered in North America with V8 engines and the choice between standard- and long-wheelbase body styles. In 1999, Audi updated the A8 with a redesigned front fascia, more standard equipment, and more powerful engines. This D2 benefits from all these updates.
