It was sold in America between the 1979 and 1985 model years, first with a naturally-aspirated engine and later with a turbo. Overseas markets got gasoline-powered wagons, but the U.S. only received diesel-powered models equipped with an automatic transmission.Power for this 300TD comes from a 3.0-liter turbodiesel 5-cylinder engine, which produces 125 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. Called "OM617" internally, and known for its exceptional longevity, it spins the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission.
