Product Details

1982 Volkswagen Rabbit Pickup Diesel, finished in Mojave Beige with a brown interior. This Rabbit's factory-fitted 1.7-liter 4-cylinder engine has been replaced by a 1.9-liter TDI turbodiesel 4-cylinder engine reportedly sourced from a 1997 Passat. Other modifications reported by the seller include a sump guard, spray-on bedliner, heated seats, and a Panasonic CD player.Volkswagen released the Rabbit Pickup for 1979 to compete against small Japanese pickups like the Chevrolet LUV. As its name implied, the model was closely related to the Rabbit hatchback under the sheet metal and fuel economy was highlighted as one of its main selling points. Production for the United States ended in 1984, but the Rabbit Pickup lived on abroad (where it was sometimes called Caddy) until the 2000s. As of 2022, it remains the first, last, and only mass-produced Golf-based pickup.Power comes from a 1.9-liter turbodiesel 4-cylinder engine, rated at 90 horsepower and 149 lb-ft of torque. It spins the front wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission.
