Product Details

1986 Mercury Capri 5.0SC ASC McLaren Convertible, finished in Oxford White with a blue soft top and a blue interior. Factory equipment includes 15-inch wheels, an ASC-specific body kit, clear covers on the rear lights, leather upholstery, wood-like interior trim, and air conditioning.Modifications reported by the seller are limited to a Sony head unit.First used to denote a German-built coupe, the Capri nameplate returned to the Mercury range for 1979 on a more upscale evolution of the Ford Mustang. Several visual cues differentiated the two Fox-based coupes, and the Capri was exclusively available as a hatchback (the Mustang was also offered as a notchback). Production ended in 1986.Mercury never approved a convertible version of the Capri, so the American Sunroof Corporation (ASC) stepped in to perform the conversion. Chopping the top required making substantial modifications: the A-pillars were bent back by nearly 3 inches and additional bracing was fitted to offset the loss of structural rigidity. Most historians agree about 552 units of the top-less Capri were built between the 1984 and 1986 model years.Power for this Capri comes from a 5.0-liter V8, rated at 200 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque. It spins the rear wheels via a 3-speed automatic transmission.
