1997 Stewart & Stevenson M1078 LMTV, finished in white with a green interior. This M1078 was built for the United States Army. It's street-legal. Built to tackle some of the toughest terrains on the planet, this M1078 is equipped with 20-inch wheels, a central tire inflation system, air-activated brakes, and a heater, among other features. It offers space for three passengers in the cab, and it features folding troop seats in the cargo compartment.Modifications reported by the seller include white paint on the cab and black paint on the cargo box. This M1078 was also retrofitted with an ignition barrel and a key.Stewart & Stevenson began providing the United States Army with air-transportable M1078 light-duty trucks in 1996. It's related to the 12M18 built by Austria's Steyr, though it's modified for American military use. Stewart & Stevenson quoted 22 inches of ground clearance, 40-degree approach and departure angles, and a 36-inch water fording capacity.The M1078 has a governed top speed of 58 mph and over 400 miles of driving range, according to the manufacturer. It also offers a 10,362-pound towing capacity.Power comes from a 6.6-liter Caterpillar 3116 straight-6 turbodiesel engine, rated at 225 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque. Also found in construction and mining trucks, among other vehicles, the engine spins the 4 wheels via a 7-speed Allison automatic transmission and a transfer case whose front-rear power distribution can be set to 50-50 or 30-70.
