1999 Mercedes-Benz S500 Grand Edition sedan, finished in Obsidian Black with a Parchment premium leather interior. The Grand Edition was a limited run of long-wheelbase S500 sedans produced for 1999, the final model year of the W140-generation S-Class. Grand Edition cars were Obsidian Black metallic (197U) with a Parchment premium leather interior. The cars were equipped with 18-inch AMG monoblock wheels, rear window and rear side window sunshades, illuminated door sills, a CD changer/portable phone, and Grand Edition floor mats. Various publications quote that Mercedes-Benz produced 600 units of the Grand Edition.Some modifications have been added to this W140 including Bilstein dampers with steel springs, wheel spacers, and a Renntech shift knob.The W140-generation S-Class is renowned by enthusiasts for its solidity and over-engineered nature synonymous with Mercedes-Benz models at the time. The car launched in the U.S. for the 1992 model year and stuck around through the end of the decade. Power comes from the "M119" 5.0-liter V8, which produces 315 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque. It spins the rear wheels via a 5-speed automatic transmission.
