Finished in Very Orange with a black and orange interior. This Roadster is equipped with 16-inch wheels, a body-colored hard top, a cloth soft top, and heated seats, among other features. Modifications are limited to a JVC head unit. The coolant pump was replaced. Tesla presented the Roadster, its first car, in July 2006 and it launched production in early 2008. Developing a convertible from scratch would have cost too much, so it started with a bare Lotus Elise shell that it re-engineered with an electric powertrain. Approximately 2,450 units of the Roadster were assembled in California until production ended in 2012.Power for this Roadster comes from an AC induction electric motor, rated at approximately 248 horsepower and 211 lb-ft of torque. Linked to a 56-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, it spins the rear wheels via a single-speed automatic transmission. Tesla quoted around 240 miles of maximum driving range in ideal conditions when the Roadster was new.
