1983 Volkswagen Rabbit GTI, finished in black with a blue/red cloth interior. The Volkswagen Golf Mk1 was marketed as the Rabbit when it first arrived in North America, with GTI variants featuring fuel injection, increased displacement, and raised compression. The Giugiaro-designed Golf succeeded the Type1 Beetle as VW's mass-appeal economy car, and the Rabbit GTI arrived in the U.S. in 1983. All U.S. examples featured a 5-speed manual transmission. Power comes from a "JH" 1.8-liter 8-valve inline-4 engine, which produces 90 horsepower and 105 lb-ft of torque.
