Product Details

1991 Peugeot 405 Mi16, finished in Vallelunga with a black interior. The window sticker pictured in the gallery notes this 405 cost $22,460 new (about $44,400 in 2021). It's equipped with 15-inch wheels, fog lights, a rear spoiler, a sunroof, leather upholstery, heated front sport seats, and automatic seat belts, among other features. The only modification reported by the seller is a newer Alpine CD player.Service records shown in the gallery detail most of the repairs and maintenance performed on this 405 since it was new, according to the seller. The steering rack was replaced and an alignment was performed in July 2020, and the seller adds the engine oil was recently changed. Clutch, suspension, and cylinder head repairs are documented in the receipts, too.Designed by Pininfarina, the 405 joined the Peugeot range for 1989 as a smaller and much more modern alternative to the 505. While none of the three trim levels offered were as basic as Europe's entry-level models, the sporty Mi16 was clearly positioned at the top of the line-up with a twin-cam engine and standard leather upholstery, among other features. Peugeot sold 2,223 cars in the United States during the first 7 months of 1991. It announced plans to leave our market in August 1991, and it hasn't been back since. European 405 production ended in 1997, but the sedan is still manufactured in Azerbaijan.Power comes from a 1.9-liter 16-valve 4-cylinder engine, rated at 150 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque. Called "XU9" internally, and closely related to the engine that powered the 205 GTi (among several other models), it spins the front wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission.
