While many high performance small displacement engines make plenty of horsepower, they often fall down on their torque output. The K20C1 engine features an aluminum engine block and cylinder head for light weight and excellent heat dissipation, direct injection for excellent gas mileage, 9.8:1 compression ratio for maximum efficiency and power, distributorless coil on plug (COP) ignition for reliability in all environmental conditions, and drive by wire electronic throttle for precise control of drivability parameters. The engine is connected to a close ratio 6-speed manual transmission with a helical limited-slip differential and a light-weight single mass flywheel. This transmission has a low first gear that provides excellent acceleration right out of the gate, while the high top gear allows for effortless highway cruising and excellent fuel mileage. The close ratios allow you to keep the engine in the power band longer when using the gears in between. When driven with restraint, you can expect mid to upper 30’s mpg on the highway. TRAC (Traction Control) helps to maintain drive power and prevent the drive wheels from spinning when starting the vehicle or accelerating on slippery roads. Vehicle Stability Assist® (VSA) also known as Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system uses the components from the ABS and TRAC systems in conjunction with the electronic throttle to regulate engine torque to enhance directional control with over/understeering of the vehicle being counteracted by applying brakes to the appropriate wheel to create a countervailing vehicle movement which helps prevent the vehicle from skidding out of control when cornering on slippery roads. Hill Start Assist keeps the brakes engaged for a moment when you move your foot from the brake to the accelerator and prevents the car from rolling back when taking off from an incline.
