2016 WaterCar Panther, finished in lime green and yellow with a gray interior. This Panther is fitted with retractable 15-inch wheels, highway and marine lights, Jeep YJ doors, and an EMPI shifter, among other features. Built in California, this SUV-speedboat hybrid features a Jeep-like design, Honda power, and a 39-knot top speed on the water. Significantly, the Panther can be launched on a beach; it doesn't need a boat ramp to enter the water. Power comes from a Honda-sourced 3.7-liter V6, rated at about 300 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. Shared with several Acura models, and mounted behind the rear seats, it spins either the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission or a stern drive system. Switching from land to water use takes approximately 15 seconds, according to the manufacturer. It requires putting the transmission in neutral, pulling on a knob to engage the jet, and pushing a button on the dashboard to raise the wheels into the hull.
